K_AiR Programme 2022

Information on our Open Call 2022 will be released in July 2021 and the deadline for applications will be August 1st.

About the residency programme

Kvitbrakka’s AiR grant-funded programme selects every year between 4 and 6 professional international and Norwegian visual artists, musicians, writers or independent curators.

The programme offers one or two months stays with onsite accommodation and studio space and Kr 5000 towards travel expenses.

Residencies are process-based and focused on enabling artists to dedicate full time to their projects.

In the selection process we prioritise projects that are focused on subject matters particularly related to Northern Norway.

Kvitbrakka is located in Berlevåg, next to the Havnemuseum by the Hurtigruta quay. With a population of just over 1000 inhabitants, Berlevåg is particularly known for its stunning arctic nature, the fishing industry and the unique cultural life. Please check the film "Helt Normal Galskap" for a quick overview on the village's rich natural and cultural environment.

Applications are reviewed on the basis of project quality, artistic excellence and artist’s intentions for engagement with the local community.

How to apply

When the application round is opened we expect to receive the following information:

1- Application form completed

2- CV

3- Small portfolio with max 10 images. If you are a curator or writer, please include one or two samples of previous projects or publications.

4- A project proposal not exceeding one A4 page.

5- A community engaged project such as exhibition, open studio, talk, workshops and others.

6- Although it is not mandatory, we would very much appreciate if the artist could donate one artwork to our Kunsthall collection.

This year we are working to increase the funding towards our grant-funded programme. So hopefully we will be able to host more artists from 2022 onwards.
